About the Role:
We're seeking a highly skilled, hands-on polyglot Back-End Principal Engineer to help shape the future of our software platform and drive its evolution in line with our 3-year product strategy.
You'll leverage cutting-edge technologies and work alongside cross-functional teams to deliver innovative scalable, resilient and secure solutions that tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow.
This is a high impact, high visibility role requiring effective communication with senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical consultancy: Work closely with architecture and project teams to deliver Javascript/Typescript and Java/Spring Boot PoC's and solutions hands-on, and be part of the build of preferred solutions for the CES platform.
Microservices Architecture: Build on and implement robust, event-driven microservices using JS/TS, Java, Kafka and modern frameworks.
Event-Driven Systems: Drive adoption and optimisation of pub/sub and messaging systems to enable real-time, scalable applications.
Collaboration: Partner with Product, Architecture, Engineering and Design teams to deliver innovative technical solutions that meet business goals.
Standards & Best Practices: Establish development best practices.
Mentor and Inspire: Foster a culture of continuous learning by mentoring engineers and sharing knowledge across squads.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
You’re a visionary engineer who loves hands-on coding (you're currently coding 50% of your time or more), and thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments. You combine deep technical expertise with a passion for delivering impact and project outcomes.
Key Skills and Experience:
Extensive Back-end Experience: Principal or Staff Engineer level experience; with at least 2-3 years hands-on Javascript/Typescript Back-End experience AND 7+ years ' prior in Java/Spring Boot; a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering; Python skills are a bonus.
Public Cloud Expertise: 2+ years with AWS, GCP or Azure and related services such as IAM, EC2, S3, API Gateway.
Containerization and Orchestration: Good experience with containerized environments like Kubernetes.
Microservices and Event-Driven: Strong background with microservices architecture and messaging systems (eg Kafka; Google pub/sub).
Databases: Experience creating highly performant relational and NOSQL database designs, data modelling and use of ORMs, like JPA.
Engineering Best Practices: You use automated solutions including testing, CI/CD, IaC (Terraform or Cloud Formation) and DevOps; you have a real passion for quality, security and continuous improvement.
Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communicator who can work with technical and non-technical people and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
Proactive Mentor: You are a self-starter and proactive leader and mentor who drives positive change and fosters accountability.
